Having one’s sh!t together is a big deal, especially when one is going through some sh!t.
When I found myself in the unfamiliar space of not having my sh!t together recently, I discovered an anchor…it was in the mundane.
By mundane, I mean the activities of daily life that one typically finds unexciting/unfulfilling–chores, errands, and small talk.
In moments/periods of difficulty, doing the laundry, getting groceries, and exchanging pleasantries with neighbors can feel monumental, if not award-worthy.
Generally, our culture that values high performance does not reward people, even if they’re in distress, for accomplishing the mundane.
So, in these situations, we must learn to praise ourselves. That means, exclaiming, “SH!T YEAH!!” for finding the wherewithal to pull sh!t together enough to get sh!t done.
This is a significant change in perspective.
Indeed, it’s so far from mundane, it makes SHIFT happen.
